Additions to the agenda: none
New Business:
A. Motion to accept the budget sub-committee recommendation of the FY2015 budget was made by Georgia Bergan; seconded by Mary Teufel.
Motion approved.
· The Mayor did strike a few of the capital item ideas; otherwise, the Department’s budget is pretty “flat” compared to the 2014 budget.
Old Business:
A. Lifestyle Essentials Report - as noted in the commission packets
B. We Thrive!
· The signs designating Evendale as a WeThrive! Community were presented to the Recreation Commission. Commissioners would like to get window clings, two more road signs, if possible, and a image file so the WeThrive! designation can be added to advertising, website, etc. Mary Ellen will look into getting all options.
· Our next step is to work on goals and expanding these out into an action plan.
· Create, or add to, events where people can get screenings completed (blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, etc.) by certified professionals (i.e. Walgreens staff, Evendale Fire Dept., UC School of Pharmacy technicians). Collaborate with Gorman Farm for purchasing produce, planting and growing ones own food. Add healthy options to the vending machines, concessions, and food options at events. Work with Council to designate smoke free zones on village grounds, and educate patrons about second hand smoke damaging young lungs.
· Leadership could be through public meetings, input sessions, and educational classes.
· The Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan is a good start to the physical activity objective. Add a variety, and more, fitness classes. Promote membership renewals start in December.
· This plan should look at goals and objectives for one year, two years, and five years. To help commissioners and the staff from feeling over-whelmed, recruit outsiders to help. Mary Ellen will work on building out the objectives, timelines, and steps, then report back at the November meeting.
· Thank you toall the commissioners for their hard work on this task.
Director’s Report:
· On Wednesday, November 5th, at 10am there is a required meeting for companies bidding to manage our pool. That afternoon at 2:30pm, there is a required meeting for companies to manage our fitness cneter.
· David passed out copies of updated department organizational chart. At least one more change is coming as we plan to hire an additional Phi Lambda Pi advisor. Kim Pielage is settling in to her new role programming for adults (18 & up).
· The ThorGuard Lightning Prediction system has been installed on our roof and is now operational. One (1) fifteen second blast signals the beginning of the lightning warning period. Three (3) five second short blasts signal the end.
· Gus Janszen sends his thank you for helping with the gym time and costs issue.
· The communities in the Northern Recreation Basketball league have decided to join the CPYBL (Cincinnati Premier Youth Basketball League) for the 2014/2015 season. This larger league has more game opportunities for our players.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
· The summer trip to Florida went very well.
· The new members competition was won by Joey Fortner and Kirsten Lucas. This annual set of fun challenges welcomes the new class into Phi.
· The governing committee has been involved, with Kim and Adam, interviewing all three candidates for the advisor position. All three are very good; it makes for a very tough decision.
· The group began setting up for the haunted trail last night. Again this year, the trail will go through the south gym and racquetball courts of the recreation center.
· Since Kim is working with the 18 & up crowd, Adam Knight will take on a more involved role with Phi Lambda Pi. He will be handling the responsibility of children's programs as well.
Open Discussion: none
